Parental Mental Health Awareness Month in Kansas City

Updated: Oct 21

May has been proclaimed Parental Mental Health Awareness Month in Kansas City by Mayor Quinton Lucas. This is the first Parental Mental Health Awareness Month in KC and in the country! The request for proclamation was written by Kim Hawley and the rest of the board members of Whole Parent Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization based in Kansas City dedicated to providing inclusive and accessible mental health support and community for pregnant persons, parents, partners, and their support systems.

As you are so well aware, in Missouri, mental health conditions, including substance use disorders, are the leading underlying cause of pregnancy-related deaths. This proclamation aims to raise awareness for the mental health of all parents, regardless of race, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age or ability. It is critically important in addressing the mental health support that parents and caregivers need.
